Sony Pictures Television in Co-production Deal with Colombia's Caracol
Two primetime series will be produced each year under new pact.
Mexico City -- Sony Pictures Television on Monday said it has inked a three-year deal to co-produce primetime series with Colombian network Caracol Television.
SPT and Caracol, one of Colombia's top broadcasters, have joined forces to co-produce two primetime series per year; additionally, Caracol will produce local versions of formats from SPT's scripted catalogue.
Financial details of the deal were not disclosed and SPT declined to offer specifics on upcoming productions, but the company said it will focus primarily on dramatic series and telenovelas. SPT and Caracol will share in worldwide distribution of the series.
Caracol is the producer behind popular drug-themed series such as Sin Tetas no hay Paraiso (Without Breasts, There is no Paradise) and El Cartel de los Sapos.
The Bogota-based producer churns out about 4,000 hours of content annually and its international arm distributes more than 16,000 hours of original programming.
