Sossamon, Jones, Rea to play 'Heavy'

CANNES -- Shannyn Sossamon, Vinnie Jones and Stephen Rea have joined producer Parkland Pictures' crime thriller "The Heavy."

Screenwriter-director Marcus Warren's British feature centers on a henchman played by Gary Stretch, who is forced to forgive a debt to his shady businessman boss (Rea) by assassinating his own brother, a high profile politician. The plan begins to unravel when he gets involved with a student (Sossamon) whose flat he plans to use for the crime, and a corrupt detective (Jones) gets on his trail.

Christopher Lee, George Harris, Geoff Bell and Jean Marsh round out the cast. Principal photography began on the film this month in the U.K. Parkland Pictures is selling international rights to the feature at the Festival de Cannes market.

Sossamon's upcoming films include After Dark Films' "Wristcutters: A Love Story," Warner Bros." "One Missed Call" and the indie "Life Is Hot in Cracktown." Jones' credits include "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels," Lionsgate's "Played" and New Line's upcoming "Rush Hour 3." Rea's credits include Miramax's "The Crying Game," Sony Pictures Classics' "Breakfast on Pluto," Warner Bros.' "V for Vendetta" and "The Reaping" and the upcoming indie "The Mutant Chronicles."

Sossamon is repped by CAA and the Dash Group. Jones is repped by Classic Management and Nine Yards Entertainment. Rea is repped by ICM.
