Join the Cult of 'Sound of My Voice' With a 2-Minute Clip (Video)
Watch the mysterious first two minutes of cowriter-director Zal Batmanglij's festival favorite, starring Brit Marling.
Potential members of the cult of Sound of My Voice got their first glimpse Monday at what’s in store for them when Fox Searchlight released the first two minutes from the film. After making the rounds on the festival circuit in 2011, Zal Batmanglij’s film about two skeptics infiltrating a cult is set to arrive in theaters April 27, 2012.
The clip is a prelude to a larger 12-minute piece that will be posted online Thursday – the first chapter of the film’s ten. The clip follows Peter (Christopher Denham) and Lorna (Nicole Vicius) as they arrive at a nondescript house in the heart of the suburbs. Pulling into a garage, a man in a hoodie emerges from inside and collects al of their personal belongings – their wallets, cell phones and even jewelry. Each of them is given a robe, and Nicole is ushered into a bathroom to change.
Batmanglij and his star, Brit Marling, made headlines last year when their film premiered at Sundance just days after they finished it, and then went on to win awards and acclaim at the South By Southwest Film Festival, among many others. Sound of My Voice was co-written by Marling, whose previous film was also released by Fox Searchlight, Another Earth, and the young actress has already lined up a number of high-profile acting roles in films like Arbitrage in addition to her work behind the camera with Batmanglij and her Another Earth director Mike Cahill.
