MIPTV: U.S. Cooking Channel to Air South African Celebrity Chef Show
"Siba's Table," hosted by South Africa's Siba Mtongana, is the first Scripps Networks International original to air in the U.S.
LONDON -- The U.S. Cooking Channel has picked up Siba's Table, hosted by South African celebrity chef Siba Mtongana, an original show from Cooking Channel owner Scripps Networks' international arm.
The show marks Scripps Networks International's first series to air in the U.S.
Mtongana will be one of the first South African celebrity chefs to host a series on a USA TV network, Scripps said. The backdrop to the series is Cape Town, where the series was filmed. The city has a reputation as the home of one of South Africa's most vibrant food scenes.
In Siba's Table, the chef creates and serves a range of dishes for friends and family. Each episode recreates a chapter of her Cape Town life, as she draws on influences from both her childhood and her experiences as a food editor.
Launching April 5, the program will air weekly on the Cooking Channel, which reaches 60 million U.S. homes.
Siba's Table debuted in South Africa on the Food Network in September and has aired throughout Africa, Europe, Middle East and the United Kingdom on Scripps' Food Network.
Said Mtongana, "This is great news for me, but more so for my beloved country, South Africa, as it will once again place the 'rainbow nation' on the map."
