Spanish MGM HD bows this month
24-hour channel to air in Argentina, MexicoMexico City -- MGM has launched a Spanish-language version of its HD channel in Argentina and Mexico, two of Latin America's largest markets.
MGM HD bows this month on cablers Cablevision Argentina, Cablevision Mexico and satcaster Sky Mexico. A Portuguese-language version of the channel launched last year in Brazil and with the additions of Mexico and Argentina, MGM HD is now operating in the region's top three territories.
The 24-hour channel will air original U.S. productions, recent releases and special events, including "American Film Institute: Lifetime Achievement Award," "World Music Awards" and "MMA on MGM: Battle of the Americas."
"The MGM HD channel arrived in Brazil in May 2009 and our strategy remains to offer a channel with programming that is separate from our standard signal, presenting different genres of films without commercial interruptions and without traditional advertising," said Melvin Perez, president of MGM Networks Latin America.
MGM is considering producing future editions of "MMA on MGM" in Mexico.
