The Walt Disney Internet Group has named John Spelich vp corporate communications, the company division said.

Spelich will be responsible for worldwide corporate communications issues and initiatives involving Disney's new-media products and technologies including Disney.com, Disney Mobile and mDisney mobile content.

He will report to Larry Shapiro, executive vp WDIG, and Zenia Mucha, executive vp corporate communications at the Walt Disney Co.

"Rapid developments in mobile technology and the widespread adoption of high-speed Internet service around the world are presenting a myriad of opportunities for the Walt Disney Co. to enhance the creation and global distribution of interactive content," Shapiro said Friday. "We believe that John's background and experience will help us communicate effectively with our most important audiences about the significant product initiatives we are planning and executing in the coming years."

Spelich, who was senior vp, director of litigation support, at communications consultancy Fleishman-Hillard Inc., has nearly 25 years of experience in the communications field.

An attorney and former newspaper reporter, Spelich joined Disney in June 2002 as vp corporate communications before leaving the company in February 2005.
