'Spider-Man' Owes Julie Taymor $300,000, Union Says

The union that represents theater directors has filed an arbitration claim against producers of the troubled Broadway musical Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark, claiming former director Julie Taymor is owed around $300,000 in royalties.

According to the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, Taymor has yet to receive royalties since the show began preview performances last Nov. 28. Failure to pay royalties violates both the union’s collective bargaining agreement and Taymor’s individual contract, the union said, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Taymor, who had been the director and co-book writer, was fired in March following poor reviews and several injuries involving the cast.

Michael Cohl, one of the show's lead producers, has said that his team is still trying to resolve financial disputes.

The rebooted version of the show is set to open Tuesday.
