Spielberg, Discovery teaming for doc

Project will focus on the rebuilding of World Trade Center site

Discovery Communications is teaming with Steven Spielberg for a project that takes an in-depth look at the World Trade Center rebuild.

The filmmaker will present "Rebuilding Ground Zero," a documentary about the rebuilding of the Twin Towers site in New York.

"The rebuilding effort at Ground Zero is a compelling story of remembrance and renewal," New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said in a statement. "The fact that Steven Spielberg -- one of the great filmmakers of our time -- will produce a documentary on it ensures that the story will be brought to life for people around the world for generations to come."

Rebuilding efforts on a new skyscraper on the World Trade Center site were stalled, then got under way in 2006.

The six-part series will debut on Discovery's Science Channel in 2011 -- two years before the "Freedom Tower" is expected to be completed -- and will be shot in 3D and high-def.

Dreamworks Television and KPI will produce, with Spielberg executive producing along with Debbie Myers, Christo Doyle and architect Danny Forster.
