Spike TV, 'Amazing Race' Co-Creator Team for Bellator Fighting Championships Reality Series

The Viacom-owned network best known for such series as Ink Master and 1,000 Ways to Die has picked up Last Family on Earth, a competition reality show involving families who are vying for a spot in a state-of-the-art underground Vivos bunker fortified to withstand nearly any end-of-days disaster scenario. The families selected to participate fall among the 15 percent of the world’s population that believes the end of civilization is near.

The six-episode, hourlong series, which hails from Pilgrim Studios, is set to premiere on Spike TV this fall. The finale is set to air just in time for the winning family to move into their bunker and await what the Mayan calendar suggests will be the world’s cataclysmic demise on Dec. 21.

The doomsday-preparation genre is gaining steam, with more than 4 million viewers tuning into Nat Geo’s two-hour premiere of Doomsday Preppers in February. In Last Family, the competition will not only test the contestants’ endurance and physical skills but also their leadership abilities, integrity and character. A panel of three survivalist-expert judges, along with viewer input from social media, will help determine which family is eliminated each week. 

Host, casting and challenge details are being kept under wraps until the summer. Pilgrim’s Craig Piligian will serve as an executive producer, with Ralph Wikke, Mitch Rosa, Ken Schur and Jason Adler joining him as co-EPs.
