Spirit Awards 2015: 'Ida' Wins Best International Film

Pawel Pawlikowski's acclaimed minimalist drama about post-war Poland picks up the award

Ida won the Independent Spirit Award for the best international film.

Director Pawel Pawlikowski accepted the award. "Thank you to my competitors for losing this time," he joked.

"We did everything to make a film nobody watches: black and white, the camera doesn't move, hardly any script... but miracles happen," he said.

Ida beat out fellow nominees Force Majeure (Sweden), Leviathan (Russia), Mommy (Canada), Norte, the End of History (Philippines) and Under the Skin (United Kingdom) to take home the honor.

The Independent Spirit Awards honors exclusively independent films, bringing together top Hollywood talent and independent filmmakers. Fred Armisen and Kristen Bell are co-hosting the 30th annual Film Independent Spirit Awards, which is being broadcast live on IFC.
