Spirit Music Group Acquires Nashville-Based Cal IV Entertainment

 

SpirIt Music Group has acquired Cal IV Entertainment, a Nashville-based indie music publisher, production and artist management company. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The move gives Spirit Music a presence in Nashville and will see Cal IV president Daniel Hill appointed president of Spirit Music Nashville. The rest of the Cal IV staff, including vp creative Billy Lynn, will also remain on board.

"The acquisition of Cal IV represents a 'trifecta' for Spirit, adding great catalog, including important pop and country copyrights, hot writers and artists and an incredible staff, lead by successful veterans Daniel Hill and Billy Lynn, to build upon an incredibly solid foundation," said Spirit Music chairman David Renzer. "We couldn’t be more excited about this significant step for Spirit as we accelerate the company’s growth.”

The company's catalog boasts numerous hit records, including Faith Hill’s “Breathe,” Keith Urban’s “Stupid Boy,” Tim McGraw’s “Watch the Wind Blow By,' Jason Aldean’s “Big Green Tractor," Rascal Flatts' "Rewind," Love and Theft's "Angel Eyes" and Lady Antebellum's "It Ain't Pretty."

Cal IV's current songwriter roster includes Jim Collins, Rose Falcon, Eric Knutson, Eric Paslay, Matt Singleton and Brittany Taylor. The catalog also includes songs by former Cal IV writers such as Dave Berg, Jim McBride, Odie Blackmon, Marla Cannon-Goodman, Trent Tomlinson, Holly Lamar, Georgia Middleman and Ted Russell Kamp.

In a statement, Hill, who reports to Renzer, said: "Joining forces with Spirit Music will create synergies that individually we could not attain, and will enable us to take the catalog and our songwriters to a whole new level of success."
