SPT ups Couper as senior vp ops

NEW YORK-- Michael Couper has been named to the newly created position of senior vp, strategic operations and mobile advertising at Sony Pictures Television.

The appointment is aimed at helping SPT monetize mobile platforms and marks the next step in SPT developing digital ad sales business, which already represents the online inventory in Sony Pictures Entertainment's digital efforts, as well as Sony BMG's Music Box.

In his new role, Couper will handle mobile advertising inventory sales and partnerships and build the company's mobile ad business. He also will identify and negotiate third-party advertising deals across multiple platforms including linear, mobile, online and VOD. He will report to Amy Carney, president, advertiser sales at SPT.

"As we further expand our digital advertising efforts at SPT, Michael will use his expertise to help us monetize mobile platforms through ad sales," Carney said. "The advertising opportunities in the mobile landscape are evolving, and we want to be at the forefront, providing the richest, most effective placements for advertisers, via great mobile partners."

In his previous position as vp business development at SPT, Couper evaluated the strategic and financial benefits of acquisitions and proposed transactions and also provided investment consulting to internal clients. Couper joined SPT in 2003 as executive director, finance. Before that, he served as director, finance at Vivendi Universal Entertainment.
