SPTI promotes Miller to exec vp Asia operations
EmptySony Pictures Television International said Monday that Todd Miller has been upped to executive vp and managing director, Asia.
Based at SPTI's Asia headquarters in Hong Kong, Miller is responsible for managing and coordinating the division's licensing, network operations and local-language production businesses in the region. He recently added oversight of SPTI's mobile and digital content delivery initiatives throughout Asia.
Miller reports to SPTI president Michael Grindon, who made the announcement.
"Todd has built strong relationships with broadcasters, mobile carriers, digital outlets and content producers throughout the region," Grindon said, adding that he had "facilitated the explosive growth of our networks business (and) expanded distribution efforts in Asia."
He said Miller recently opened a licensing office in South Korea and had played a key role in expanding local-language production in the region. "Asia is an important growth area for us, and we're thrilled to have Todd continue to head our businesses there," Grindon added.
Miller had been SPTI's senior vp and managing director, Asia, since 2004. Under Miller's direction, SPTI has distributed Asian entertainment worldwide. In addition to two of the highest-grossing Asian movies, "Kung Fu Hustle" and "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," SPTI's Asian portfolio includes the new CJ Media Inc. drama "Hyena"; the award-winning Korean anime series "MaskMan"; the Korean feature "How to Keep My Love"; the Vietnamese feature "Long Legged Beauty"; the Japanese anime series "Humanoid Monster Bem" and "Blood+"; the Japanese miniseries "Tokyo Friends," starring pop singer Ai Otsuka; and the Chinese feature "Riding Alone for Thousands of Miles," directed by three-time Academy Award nominee Zhang Yimou.
Miller was senior vp international networks, Asia, from 2003-04. Based in Singapore, he oversaw operations and day-to-day activities of AXN Asia, the first 24-hour cable and satellite TV channel dedicated to action-adventure programming.
