Canadians Celine Dion, James Cameron among participantsTORONTO -- Backed by Hollywood star power from Canadians Celine Dion and James Cameron, Friday's cross-network "Canada for Haiti" telethon raised nearly $10 million for the earthquake-crippled Caribbean nation.
And French-speaking Quebec raised another $6.7 million with its own TV fundraising concert, "Ensemble pour Haiti," staged Friday night in Montreal.
The English-Canadian telethon, hosted by broadcasters CBC, CTV and Global Television, also featured on-air pitches from Michael J. Fox, Norman Jewison, Sandra Oh, Eugene Levy and Jason Reitman.
The homegrown fundraisers were followed by the Canadian telecast of George Clooney's "Help For Haiti Now" U.S.-organized telethon on MTV.
