STAR taps CheeK exec vp
Was MTV Japan senior vpDUBAI -- Broadcaster STAR said Thursday that Cheah Chee Kong, known in the industry as CheeK, would start as its executive vp of Chinese-language programming in Hong Kong in January.
Malaysian-born CheeK comes to the News Corp. subsidiary after 17 years working around Asia as a television executive and filmmaker on such award-winning titles as "Chicken Rice War," winner of the Discovery Award at the 2001 Toronto International Film Festival.
Most recently MTV Japan's senior vp and creative director of content since 2006, CheeK will oversee the development of STAR's Xing Kong and Star Chinese Movies channels, among others, the company said.
CheeK will report to STAR COO Laureen Ong, who said: "He is a top-tier Asian television executive who will be looked upon to create value at all levels of our Chinese content business for the millions of STAR viewers across Greater China."
