Star Plus tops India ratings

Hindi channel takes 45% market share

NEW DELHI -- Star India’s Hindi flagship channel Star Plus has widened its lead as the top channel among India’s 70 million-plus cable and satellite homes, according to ratings figures for the first half of 2008.

The broadcaster quoted data for the week ending July 19 from ratings agency Television Audience Measurement (TAM), stating Star Plus commanded a 45% market share among top channels. Zee TV came in second with 30%, followed by South Indian channel Sun TV at 19%. Star Plus shows exclusive top 10 prime time shows led by drama series “Bidaai” (“Separation”).
