Stella McCartney's 'Maleficent' Kids Collection Hits Stores
The British designer works her magic with a limited-edition children’s line -- fit for little villainesses and princesses -- inspired by Disney’s upcoming film.
London-based fashion designer Stella McCartney announced in March that she would be teaming up with Disney for a Maleficent collection, and now her fantastical line of girls and boys clothing (ages 4 to 14) is available.
The adorable eight-piece collection includes a sparkly purple tulle Maleficent dress (complete with horns and black glitter sandals), a pastel blue princess dress, dragon- and troll-printed organic cotton T-shirts and winged high-top kicks. “I was always a huge fan of Disney and I grew up watching the films,” says McCartney. “With this collection I wanted to play on the rich character traits within the film; the sense of innocence and darkness.”
The film -- based on Disney's 1959 classic Sleeping Beauty -- tells the tale of the wicked fairy godmother Maleficent, played by Angelina Jolie. Elle Fanning joins star and producer Jolie in the dark tale as Princess Aurora. There's even a cameo by Jolie's and Brad Pitt’s 5-year-old daughter Vivienne Jolie-Pitt as a young Princess Aurora. Other members of the Jolie-Pitt brood in the film include son Pax,10, and daughter Zahara, 9.
The Maleficent by Stella McCartney Kids capsule line is currently available at Stella McCartney stores in Europe and online, and will hit U.S. stores and the Disney Store in New York City’s Time Square early May. Prices range from $75 to $185 and 10 percent of sales will benefit SOS Children’s Villages. A happily ever after, indeed.
Maleficent hits theaters May 30.
