A key piece of Detective Lt. Frank Bullitt's wardrobe is set to be auctioned.

The tweed jacket with suede elbow patches that was effortlessly donned by Steve McQueen in 1968's high-speed-chase thriller Bullitt will be up for auction next month. The jacket sees plenty of action in the shoot-'em-up scenes as the film winds its way toward its conclusion.

"McQueen wears this distinctive jacket while on the hitman’s trail, during the iconic car chase, while riding with Jacqueline Bisset in her yellow Porsche Cabriolet in San Mateo, at the police station, in the coroner’s office and the climactic chase on foot at San Francisco International Airport," said the auction house, Profiles in History, in a press release.

The dealer estimates that the item could fetch between $600,000 and $800,000 from a potential buyer. The estimated sale price would be in line with the $984,000 that McQueen's Les Mans driving suit sold for in 2011. Earlier this year, McQueen's Les Mans Tag Heuer watch sold at auction for $799,500

The jacket auction will take place at the Profiles in History offices in Calabasas, Calif., on July 29.
