Stripper Robin Hood Story 'The Hustlers at Scores' in the Works at Gloria Sanchez
Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Jessica Elbaum are developing an adaptation of the New York Magazine piece by Jessica Pressler.
The splashy New York Magazine piece "The Hustlers at Scores" about strippers who steal from the rich and give to ... themselves ... is getting the movie treatment.
The female-focused TV and film company Gloria Sanchez Productions has acquired the rights and is developing an adaptation of the magazine feature by Jessica Pressler.
Will Ferrell, Adam McKay (who's fresh off his Oscar win for best adapted screenplay for The Big Short) and Jessica Elbaum will produce the film through the company, which is an offshoot of Gary Sanchez Productions that focuses on creating female-led projects.
The December 2015 article is described as a modern Robin Hood story — centered on strippers. It focuses on a few women who use their wits and smarts (and sometimes some drugs and prostitutes) to manipulate money out of clients at the club (many of them from Wall Street). Indeed, the first sentence of the New York Magazine story sets the reader off on a trip with some unique characters: "In another life, Roselyn Keo might have liked to work on Wall Street."
The producers want to move quickly on developing the project and are looking to attached top talent, including a leading actress and a writer.
Since launching in 2014, Gloria Sanchez produced Leslye Headland’s comedy Sleeping With Other People, which debuted at Sundance and was released by IFC Films. The production banner is also developing comedy Plus One, about a suddenly single woman who struggles to find single friends to join her on the dating scene.
