'Un Monde Truque' is French cartoonist Jacques Tardi's first animated film.

Just after Marion Cotillard was nominated for her second Oscar on Thursday, StudioCanal is launching pre-sales on Un Monde Truque, a new animated feature with the star.

The Oscar winner will be April, a young woman who, along with the help of her cat Darwin and sidekick Julius, must find her family. They were kidnapped a decade earlier just as they were on the brink of discovering a serum for invincibility. April searches for the truth as she finds herself in the middle of a major conspiracy.

The action-adventure mystery is directed by Christian Desmares and Franck Ekinci from a screenplay by Ekinci and Benjamin Legrand.

Set in a steampunk, alternate-reality Paris ruled by Napoleon VI, the film has a graphic design team led by famed French cartoonist Jacques Tardi. It is his first animated feature.

Marc Jousset and Ekinci produce for Je Suis Bien Content, the team behind the Oscar-nominated Persepolis. The English-language title has yet to be announced for the project.

Also launching in pre-sales is the latest from French director Maiwenn, Mon Roi, starring Vincent Cassel (Black Swan) and Emmanuelle Bercot (Carlos), StudioCanal said. The drama reteams Maiwenn and Bercot, the star of her Cannes jury prize-winner Polisse.

Based on a script from Maiwenn and Etienne Comar, described as a “self-destructive love story” focused on Tony, the drama follows a woman overcoming her turbulent past as she recovers from a major injury. In the process, she heals both physically and mentally.

Also awaiting an English-language title, the drama is produced by Les Productions du Tresor, the team behind Guillaume Canet’s Blood Ties.
