#StuffPretaLoves: The Cutout LBD
Emmy Rossum, Charlize Theron and Rose Byrne all rocked the trend this week.
A flash of skin (whether shoulders, midriff or lots of leg) makes the classic look fresh and sexy. While there tends to be a shift to LWDs (little white dresses) for summer, Hollywood’s top stylists are sending actresses down the red carpet in black, but with plenty of sizzle.
Emmy Rossum stepped out at the CFDA Awards wearing Australian designer Dion Lee’s edgy lace cocktail dress, while Rose Byrne’s stylist, Penny Lovell, dressed the Spy actress in Osman for the film’s New York premiere. “It was so unusual and strong — not a typical cutout dress. The fabric was really interesting and the cutouts although sexy gave a more graphic, interesting feel,” Lovell tells Pret-a-Reporter of Byrne’s look.
Jenna Dewan-Tatum and Malin Akerman both hit the Los Angeles premiere of Entourage in redefined LBDs, leather-accented David Koma and slashed fringe respectively. And, kicking off the trend was Charlize Theron (styled by Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn) in smokin’ hot Cushnie et Ochs when she presented at the Critics' Choice TV Awards. Styling duo Zangardi and Haenn also sent their supermodel client Suki Waterhouse out in a daring front-slit Elie Saab gown for the Glamour Women of the Year Awards in London.
To get the look, Michael Kors' gown with an illusion midriff mesh-panel (pictured below) oozes sophisticated sexiness for black-tie weddings or summer soirees.
"I really like black in the summer. Its contrast with a lot of skin is very strong and cool," says Lovell. Come on now, cut it out.
