Style Notes: Antonio Banderas Is Attending Fashion School; Abercrombie & Fitch Gets Sales Boost
Fashion news for your Wednesday blues.
Antonio Banderas is more than just the sexy voice behind Puss in Boots from Shrek — it looks like he's got some serious sewing skills as well. The actor/director/husky voiceover artist recently tweeted that he is currently enrolled at Central Saint Martins, the elite art and design school which has churned out successful alumni you may have heard of, including Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen, John Galliano and Phoebe Philo, to name just a few. Though they're not quite back to their early '00s King of the Mall status, the fortunes of Abercrombie & Fitch are definitely on an upswing. The teen retailer has implemented several new policy and personnel changes (including desexualized marketing and a high-fashion design team) in recent months, and it looks like sales — though still decreasing — are doing better than initial market predictions. The turnaround is certainly to be celebrated, as a comeback is no easy feat (just ask American Apparel). [Fashionista]
The VMAs are coming up on Sunday, and so much is happening! Between Miley Cyrus' crazy antics and Taylor Swift's new music video (yes, another one), there's also a fashion first hitting the small screen. Stuart Weitzman is debuting its first-ever TV commercial which stars exceptionally good-looking spokeswoman Gisele Bundchen and is directed by Mario Testino. While we can't say for sure if she'll be wearing pants this time, there will likely be some cool shoes, and, from the looks of the behind-the-scenes photos, plenty of dancing. [WWD]
Residents of Marina del Rey and Venice Beach, Calif., got yet another reason to dislike all things Kardashian/Jenner related. Last night, Khloe Kardashian and most of the clan gathered on a yacht to celebrate the birthday of Khloe's boyfriend, NBA star James Harden, with a big birthday bash — complete with an illegal midnight fireworks show. Residents in the area reportedly had no idea what was going on, with some even tweeting that they thought the noise was a terrorist attack at nearby LAX. Love them or hate them, the Kardashian-Jenners certainly know how to kick things off with a bang. [THR]
