Style Notes: Kendall Jenner Goes Platinum for 'Vogue'; Band of Outsiders Returns for Black Friday
Fashion news to fill your date's awkward silences with.
If you thought that Vogue was taking a Kendall Jenner break in this month's issue, think again. The glossy's favorite supermodel was unrecognizable as a platinum blonde in the mag's fashion editorial, "wonder.land," shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, which cast the 19-year-old as a freakier, more fashion forward Alice. Band of Outsiders will return from the dead this Black Friday for a massive sale hosted by online retailer Filene's Basement. Over 2,000 men's and women's pieces from Scott Sternberg's now defunct line, including pieces from earlier seasons in addition to his last collection, will be available at a 50 percent discount from original retail price on Nov. 27. During the following two days, the pieces will be further reduced by 25 percent. [WWD]
Ageless beauty Kate Hudson covers this December's issue of Harper's Bazaar — but it's more than just her perfectly wavy blonde hair and blindingly white smile that look familiar. Devoted Harper's fans pointed out that the cover, from the pink backdrop to open-mouth smile, looks almost exactly the same as Hudson's 2013 December cover. Hey, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. While many department stores have blamed the warm weather for falling sales due to a bloated inventory of winter wear, Urban Outfitters claims that a lack of "newness" in fashion has given customers fatigue. CEO Richard Hayne cites a growth in beauty and home goods in Urban-owned stores Anthropologie and Free People as evidence that it's not a lack of customer cash flow but rather boredom that is responsible for the decline.
