You got through Monday — celebrate with these six titillating style stories.
A newly released video goes behind the scenes of Rihanna's River Island collaboration, showing the singer meeting with her creative team at the Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills discussing her summer collection. Set to her "Fresh Off the Runway" track, she signs off on samples that feature photos from her best friend and photographer (and well-known video vixen) Melissa Forde, and discusses her inspiration for custom-made tie-dye and floral fabrics with designer Adam Selman. "I wanted it to be gangsta," she explains. "That you can wear it with rock 'n' roll stuff." [Fashionista]
Fashion photographer Terry Richardson steps in front of the camera for Valentino's latest accessories ad campaign, which kicks off today. The prints pair his ornate forearm tattoos with the fashion house's studded red Rockstud Rouge and Rockstud Noir heels and handbags. The collaboration, shot in Rome at Studio Backspace, is the first time Valentino designers Pierpaolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri have worked with Richardson. The images aim to represent “the sensual yet elegant nature of our accessories, described as objects of desire," says Chiuri. [WWD]
Designers gone wild? A select handful of the fashion industry has channeled their spirit animals to design bespoke masks for charity event in London on July 9 that benefits The Elephant Family and Habitat for Humanity, an initiative that aims to protect Asian elephants and their habitat. Though most designs like those by Diane von Furstenberg, Piers Atkinson and Mario Testino incorporate feathers, expect everything from ravens to rodents at the Animal Ball. Also involved in the project are Christian Lacroix, Matthew Williamson, Missoni,Manolo Blahnik and Dita Von Teese. Our favorite? An ornate red butterfly headpiece by Beulah London. [Vogue UK]
Ralph Lauren will open a flagship on Fifth Avenue, in the space formerly occupied by the Disney Store. Since the space is said to be around 35,000 feet, retail experts predict that the location will showcase a flood of offerings from the Ralph Lauren family to attract business from tourists. As for the locals with higher taste and bigger wallets, stick to the Madison Avenue men's and women's outposts. [Racked]
