Style polishes 'Ruby' weight-loss series for nine-episode fall run
EmptyStyle Network has greenlighted a reality series that follows a Savannah, Ga.-based woman's struggle with severe obesity.
Brittany Daniel is a consulting executive producer on the series, which stars one of her best friends, Ruby Gettinger, who weighs 500 pounds.
"Ruby" will show the daily struggles that Gettinger goes through and her attempt to lose weight after her doctor tells her that her life depends on it.
The show, produced by Gay Rosenthal Prods., debuts in the fall. Nine episodes (an hourlong premiere and eight half-hours) have been ordered.
"Ruby really caught our attention because she is such a wonderful, multidimensional woman with a great sense of humor," Style executive vp Salaam Coleman Smith said.
Daniel, who will make appearances in the series, met Gettinger seven years ago, when she was living in Los Angeles.
"Ruby really wants to inspire people," Daniel said. "And she's so entertaining and hysterical, so it's going to be an inspirational but also a really fun show." (partialdiff)
