Sundance Channel Picks Up British Miniseries 'Appropriate Adult'

The Sundance Channel is delving into serial killer territory.

The cable channel is prepping Appropriate Adult, a two-part miniseries co-production with ITV Studios based on true events. The story centers on a British serial killer Fred West and his relationship with his "appropriate adult" Janet Leach. The project will focus on the untold story of how West and his wife Rosemary were brought to justice after being accused of murdering at lest a dozen women in the UK. (On the other side of the pond, an “appropriate adult” is appointed to sit in on police interviews with children or vulnerable adults to safeguard their interests.)

The project, which is set to debut this fall, counts Dominic West (The Wire, 300) and Oscar-nominated actress Emily Watson (Hilary and Jackie) as its stars. The pair will portray West and Leach, respectively. The script was written by Neil McKay.

“With emotional depth, superb acting and a powerful script, Appropriate Adult recounts a story that shook a nation and continues to resonate today,” said the channel's general manager Sarah Barnett. “We look forward to bringing our audience a second brand-defining scripted project [following Carlos], distinguished by culturally relevant subject matter and authentic and compelling storytelling.”
