Robert Redford-Founded Sundance Channel Expands in Spain, Romania With New Carriage Deals
“Both the Romanian and Spanish markets are key regions for the continued expansion of Sundance Channel,” says Bruce Tuchman, president, AMC/Sundance Channel Global.
AMC Networks' AMC/Sundance Channel Global arm said Tuesday that the Sundance Channel has expanded in Spain and Romania as it continues to grow its reach in European and other international markets.
In its latest moves abroad, the network has launched on pay TV operators UPC Romania and on Euskaltel in Spain.
“Both the Romanian and Spanish markets are key regions for the continued expansion of Sundance Channel in Europe,” said Bruce Tuchman, president, AMC/Sundance Channel Global. “These exciting partnerships reflect the growing demand for Sundance Channel, and we are confident that audiences will respond to the critically acclaimed, high-quality, HD film and TV programming found on our network.”
The launch on the Liberty Global affiliates follows other recent debuts on European cable operators managed by the John Malone-owned company over the past few months, including Focus Sat in Romania and UPC in Hungary. The networks also recently got expanded carriage on Telenet in Belgium. The Sundance Channel, founded by Robert Redford, in recent months also launched in such countries as the Netherlands, France, Portugal and Taiwan.
The company also said Tuesday that it has hired Zsuzsa Mezo to handle sales and distribution for Sundance Channel in Central Europe and provide marketing support to Sundance Channel affiliates in the region. Based in Hungary, she will report to Marco Frazier, vp, global distribution EMEA, AMC/Sundance Channel Global.
Mezo was previously client services director for Factory Creative Studio, an integrated communications agency in Hungary. Prior to that, she worked at Sony Pictures Television Networks as director, affiliate creative services.
