Super boost for returning NBC series

After heavy promotion during Sunday's Super Bowl telecast, two NBC dramas received ratings bumps Monday night, with "Chuck" and "Heroes" posting gains from their previous original episodes. But the return of the psychic drama "Medium" posted a decline from last year.

The special 3-D episode of "Chuck" (8.5 million viewers, 3.0 rating/7 share in adults 18-49) was up 15% from its previous airing in December and marked a season-high rating, while the launch of the "Fugitives" edition of "Heroes" (8.6 million, 4.0/9) climbed 8% from its previous outing.

Although both numbers represent fairly mild increases, keep in mind NBC's scripted competition is stronger now than in the fall. This is the first time "Chuck" has faced Fox's "House," and it's the first time in two years "Heroes" has gone against "24."

Still, while the "Chuck" gain should please the network, NBC likely was hoping to spark more fans returning to "Heroes," whose ratings marched steadily downhill for nearly every episode during the fall season. (partialdiff)
