Super Bowl Ads: 'Transformers' Sequel, 'Ghost in the Shell' Get Game-Day Play
Almost every Hollywood studio will air ads during Sunday's pregame show and the game itself, where a 30-second spot costs a pricey $5 million.
Transformers: The Last Knight will be among the upcoming Hollywood tentpoles advertised during Sunday's Super Bowl game on Fox, Paramount confirmed Tuesday.
The studio also will air a spot for Ghost in the Shell during the pre-kickoff festivities. The pregame has become a popular destination for Hollywood, since the price tag is less.
A 30-second Super Bowl ad this year costs an all-time high of $5 million. That's not deterring Hollywood studios from buying time. Every studio save for Warners will have a presence on game day, but Paramount is the only one so far to confirm which titles it will be touting.
The Last Knight, which hits theaters June 23, reteams Michael Bay and star Mark Wahlberg and is a sequel to Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014). Ghost in the Shell, starring Scarlett Johansson, opens March 31.
Disney has bought two spots on Sunday but a promo for Star Wars: The Last Jedi (Dec. 17) isn't likely.
Superheroes could make a major presence: 20th Century Fox is likely to showcase X-Men spinoff Logan (March 13) during the showdown between the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons in Atlanta, while Disney/Marvel may reveal more about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (May 5).
One no-show, however, will be Sony's Spider-Man: Homecoming. Instead, the studio will promote Life (March 24), the space epic starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Reynolds and Rebecca Ferguson, during the pre- and post-game show.
Cars could also make a play. Universal is almost sure to show a spot for The Fate of the Furious (April 14).
Disney also could promo the next installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, due out May 26.
