Canadian pay network acquires dark comedy

TORONTO -- Canadian pay network Super Channel has acquired the TV series "Sordid Lives," from IMG Entertainment.

Super Channel picked up 12 half-hours of the dark ensemble comedy from Once Upon a Time Films and Scout Prods.

Separately, the Canadian cable service acquired the homegrown dramatic feature "The Last New Year," written and directed by Garfield Lindsay Miller and produced by the Nightingale Co.

Other recent credits from Toronto-based Nightingale include "The Weight," a cop drama for rival pay TV services the Movie Network and Movie Central.
