TORONTO -- Upstart Canadian premium pay TV channel Superchannel on Monday said it has bought a slate of Channel 4 dramas and comedies as part of a distribution agreement with Channel 4 International.

Superchannel said the pact with the British broadcaster will see a range of Channel 4 titles -- including "Teachers," "No Angels," "Wedding Belles," "The Yellow House," "Mr Miss Pageant" and "Hypochondriacs Holiday" -- air on the Canadian pay TV service.

The Edmonton, Alberta-based Superchannel will launch nationwide this month as the first-ever competition for Canada's legacy pay-TV services, Movie Central in western Canada and The Movie Network in eastern Canada.

The Canadian pay TV service signed an earlier licensing agreement with MGM Studios to air movies and TV series from MGM and United Artists.

Superchannel will comprise two HD channels, four standard channels and a VOD platform.
