The lovably unkempt local, who hunted alligators with his brother on the popular History reality show, died after experiencing a seizure in his boat.

According to a statement made by Sheriff Mike Waguespack to WBRZ-TV Baton Rouge, the incident occurred about 9 a.m. Monday. Guist was cruising along the Belle River when he reportedly "fell" out of his boat after having suffered what appeared to be a seizure. Attempts at reviving Guist through CPR were unsuccessful.
A spokesperson for History and Original Media, producers of Swamp People, offered this statement to The Hollywood Reporter on Guist's passing:
"We are extremely saddened to report that our friend and beloved member of the Swamp People family, Mitchell Guist, has passed away earlier today," the statement reads. "Mitchell passed on the swamp, doing what he loved. We appreciate your respect for the Guist family’s privacy and hope you join us in sending our thoughts and prayers to his brother, Glenn, and the rest of the Guist family."
