SXSW: Magnet Picks Up Horror/Comedy 'Milo,' About a Murderous Demon
The film, starring Ken Marino, was co-written and directed by Jacob Vaughan.
Magnet Releasing has picked up North American distribution rights to writer-director Jacob Vaughan’s comedy-horror film Milo, which premiered at the SXSW Film Festival.
The movie, which will be released this year, stars Ken Marino as a man with a murderous demon living in his intestines. Written by Vaughan and Benjamin Hayes, it features a cast that also includes Gillian Jacobs, Patrick Warburton, Mary Kay Place and Stephen Root.
Milo, which features puppetry by Frank Langley and Bob Mano, was produced by Adele Romanski with New Artists Alliance’s Gabriel Cowan and John Suits. Executive producers include Mark and Jay Duplass, John Norris, Kerry Johnson, Dallas Sonnier, Jack Heller and Floren Shieh Productions’ Clay Floren and Aimee Shieh.
“Just like Ken Marino, our stomachs were hurting watching Milo -- happily because of laughter rather than an intestinal demon,” said Eamonn Bowles, president of Magnolia Pictures, which includes the genre arm Magnet.
The deal, which closed March 15 as the fest was concluding, was negotiated by Magnolia/Magnet senior vp acquisitions Dori Begley and director of acquisitions Peter van Steemburg with ICM Partners, which repped the filmmakers and producers
