Syfy Acquires U.K. Action Fantasy Series 'Sinbad'
The 12-part action adventure drama, starring Elliot Knight and Naveen Andrews, is set to premiere in April 2013.
Syfy has aquired Sky1's adventure fantasy series Sinbad.
The 12-part project, starring newcomer Elliot Knight in the title role, will premiere in April 2013. The BBC Worldwide America series follows the famous Middle Eastern sailor's sea-bound journey after he is forced to flee from his hometown of Basra. After surviving a violent and magical storm, he embarks on an emotional journey to embrace his destiny.
The cast also includes Naveen Andrews (Lost), who co-stars as Sinbad’s nemesis Lord Akbari, as well as appearances by Sophie Okonedo (Hotel Rwanda, The Secret Life of Bees), Timothy Spall (Harry Potter, The King’s Speech) and Dougray Scott (Hitman, Mission Impossible: II).
“When mystical meets muscle, anything can happen in this exciting, action-packed series. With its strong production values and rich story, Sinbad will be a terrific addition to our primetime lineup,” said Chris Regina, Syfy’s SVP programming & original movies.
Added BBC’s EVP sales and co-productions Matt Forde: “This new version of a timeless classic is going to take American audiences by storm. Syfy is the perfect home for Sinbad.”
Sinbad is an Impossible Pictures Production (Primeval) for British Sky Broadcasting in association with BBC Worldwide. The deal was brokered by BBC Worldwide America’s svp sales and co-productions Jemma Adkins.
