Take 5 to co-produce Showtime drama
'Borgias' 13-episode order follows recent 'Tudors' acquisitionTORONTO -- Canadian indie producer Take 5 Productions has become a co-producer on Showtime's historical drama "The Borgias," which has a 13-episode order.
Take 5 Productions' president John Weber, based in Toronto, previously acquired the fourth-season rights to "The Tudors," an earlier Showtime period drama from Canadian co-producer Peace Arch Entertainment.
Like "The Tudors," "Borgias" will be structured as a Canadian-European production, with production in Europe and posting in Toronto.
There's no word yet on the European co-producer.
"Borgias" is set in Italy in 1492 and portrays a powerful crime family headed by patriarch Rodrigo Borgia, played by Jeremy Irons.
"The Tudors," which was shot on location in Ireland, included Canadian content elements such as casting and post-production, which was done at Dufferin Gate Productions in Toronto.
In addition, C.O.R.E. Digital Pictures provided visual effects for the Showtime period drama.
