Talpa Media USA Taps Jay Bienstock as CEO

John de Mol’s American outpost has found new leadership in Jay Bienstock. The reality producer and A. Smith & Co. executive has been named CEO of Talpa Media USA.

The hire puts Bienstock in charge of de Mol’s considerable stateside catalog, which boasts reigning reality champ The Voice on NBC and Fox’s Utopia, one of the fall season’s biggest gambles.

“Working with John de Mol is the pinnacle of my career,” said Bienstock. “To be part of this incredibly creative and inspired company that garners so much admiration and respect worldwide, and to have the opportunity to help grow Talpa Media here in the U.S., is the dream job of a lifetime.”

Bienstock comes to the Dutch company after several years as managing director at Arthur Smith’s unscripted shop. The position had been empty since the 2013 departure of former CEO Simon Jones.

“We have been looking for a talented creative executive, but also one with the business acumen of Jay to join Talpa and lead our U.S. division,” said de Mol. “We are excited to have Jay on board and look forward to the success we believe Jay will bring us within the Hollywood community.”

At Talpa, Bienstock will oversee the current slate while focusing on development and growing the company by generating new revenue streams.
