The siblings won much acclaim, and a Golden Bear in Berlin, for their new film "Caesar Must Die."

ROME – The Taviani brothers, fresh off winning Berlin’s Golden Bear for their latest film, Caesar Must Die, will be the guests of honor at the 10th Ischia Global Film and Music Festival, where they will be presented with the 2012 Ischia Legend Award for lifetime achievement, festival organizers said Monday.

Paolo and Vittorio Taviani, aged 80 and 82, respectively, have produced nearly two dozen films together, with each directing alternating scenes -- a technique that has garnered them many honors, including the Palme d’Or in Cannes for Padre Padrone in 1977, the Cannes jury prize in 1982 for The Night of the Shooting Stars and four David di Donatello prizes, Italy’s highest film honor.

Caesar Must Die, which tells the story of a group of prisoners in Rome who prepare for a public performance of William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, has been nominated for another Donatello prize this year.

In Ischia, the brothers will be presented with the festival’s highest honor for their overall body of work.

"The Taviani brothers are two pillars of international cinema,” said Pascal Vicedomini, the festival’s producer and founder. "After decades of success they are recognized by many international filmmakers for their capacity to shape the contemporary European identity."

The festival, which takes place on the picturesque island of Ischia off the coast of Naples, will run July 8-15.
