Taylor Swift's 2002 Braids Rule

That was also the last year an album sold as many copies as '1989' did in its first week

Taylor Swift has a lot to celebrate this week: 1989, her fifth studio record, has sold 1.287 million copies in its first week, making it the largest sales week for an album since 2002, when Eminem's The Eminem Show sold 1.322 million.

T. Swift took to Instagram to commemorate her awesome achievement, posting a childhood photo of herself in 2002. The best part about the shot? Her braided-cornrows that practically every '90s (and early 2000s) kid embraced. She captioned the old-school photo, "The last time an album sold as many copies as 1989 did first week, it was 2002, I was 12, and going through my 'braids phase'. #nofilternecessary." 'Cause that's what people say, mmhmm.
