Telemundo's 'La Reina Del Sur' Telenovela Has Strong Launch
Kate del Castillo stars in the soap, based on Arturo Perez Reverte's novel.
Telemundo’s latest telenovela, La Reina del Sur (Queen of the South), launched Monday with record numbers for the network.
Starring Kate del Castillo, La Reina averaged 2.4 million viewers for its premiere episode with 1.5 million in the pivotal adult 18-49 demographic, making it the network’s most-watched premiere for a telenovela. The soap also increased 22 percent in the second half hour in the 18-49 demo.
In the women 18-49 demo, La Reina drew 779,000 and 755,000 in men 18-49.
La Reina is based on Arturo Perez Reverte’s novel, which centers on Teresa Mendoza (del Castillo), who transforms from a young innocent girl to a tough woman surviving the world of drug trafficking.
