Stuck in the airport? Sitting out Black Friday shopping and need something to read? THR recommends 14 recent books to keep you, the kids or your friends entertained over the holiday weekend.
With all the travel and the crowded stores, Thanksgiving is the perfect holiday to pass the time with a good book. The Hollywood Reporter has selected 14 recent books that are perfect for a holiday road trip.
In fiction, our top picks include page turners from Stephen King, John Grisham and Michael Connelly. This month also saw the release of the first new Sherlock Holmes novel authorized by the estate of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle—the perfect appetizer for fans excited to see Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows with Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law, which hits theaters December 16.
In non-fiction, there is new humor from Mindy Kaling and Bill Maher. On the serious side there is a timely look at the scandal of college athletics, the thrilling true story of death and disaster during the 1961 Formula One racing season and a memoir from the first openly gay ambasador.
We have selections for kids as well, including the two hottest kids' books of the holiday season –The Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever and Wonderstruck. The crossover hit of the holidays just might be The Future of Us, a Young Adult time travel novel about kids in 1986 discovering their Facebook profiles in 2011, that will appeal to readers of all ages.
