THR Nominees Night 2014: Lupita Nyong'o Says She Has So Many Photos On Her Phone, It's About to Break (Video)
12 Years a Slave's Lupita Nyong'o has been catapulted to stardom by her Oscar-nominated, first role in Steve McQueen's drama. She was cast just a few months before graduating from Yale's School of Drama and told The Hollywood Reporter's Scott Feinberg during Nominees Night that she's had a few moments where she realized how much her life has changed in a few months, but she's looking forward to being able to look back on awards season after it's over.
"It sneaks up on me and I'm like, 'Wow a lot has changed in just a few months,' you know," she said. "And I look forward to having distance from it and being able to take it all in and maybe look at the photos I've taken. I have so many photos on my phone, my phone's about to break."
Nyong'o has also made headlines lately for her stylish red-carpet fashion. The actress wore a gold Valentino couture dress, talked about being at the Oscar nominees luncheon earlier in the day, calling the event "so much fun."
The Nominees Night party was hosted by Janice Min, co-president/chief creative officer of the Entertainment Group of Guggenheim Media, and Lynne Segall, THR senior vp and publisher. It came hours after Nyong'o and other top talent attended the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominees luncheon, where the annual class photo was taken off all of this year's nominees.
Talking about the class photo, Nyong'o pointed out she was next to Pharrell Williams, a best song nominee for "Happy" from the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack, calling Williams and his cohorts, "the 'Happy' team, which is the team to be next to."
Williams once again sported his infamous hat at Monday's lunch, and Nyong'o joked that she's hoping to borrow it.
"I'm trying to get it for the Oscars, actually. I'm trying to ask him whether I can borrow it," she said, laughing.
