Three of a kind: ABC, Fox, NBC tie for first

Empty

NEW YORK -- ABC, Fox and NBC wrangled to a three-way tie for first place Sunday night in the adults 18-49 demographic.

Fox and NBC made the top of the heap because of the NFL, with Fox getting the benefit of runover from the second Sunday window while NBC had the Indianapolis Colts-San Diego Chargers game as "Sunday Night Football." ABC got there with its regular lineup, which also won it among viewers in primetime.

The data comes from preliminary estimates released Monday by Nielsen Media Research, with final data to be released Tuesday. NBC's performance is likely to increase with the revised data.

The top program Sunday was ABC's "Desperate Housewives" (18.5 million, 7.2 rating/16 share in the adults 18-49 demographic), which was up slightly compared with last week. "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" (15.1 million, 5.3/13) was up strongly over last week as was "Brothers & Sisters" (12.5 million, 5.0/13).

Also doing well was Fox's "The Simpsons" (10.6 million, 5.1/13), though it was down from last week. Fox saw a slight uptick week-to-week from "Family Guy" (10.4 million, 5.4/12) thanks to the second half of the "Stewie Kills Lois" episode, and it helped boost "American Dad" (7.9 million, 4.0/9). A half-hour of overrun early in the night boosted Fox.

After a monster Sunday last week with overrun from the Colts-New England Patriots game and strong numbers throughout most of the night, CBS fell back to Earth this Sunday. "60 Minutes" (13 million, 2.6/7) and "Cold Case" (12.9 million, 3.0/7) were all down from last week, as was the second episode of "The Amazing Race" (12.9 million, 3.0/7). CBS' "Shark" (11.5 million, 2.6/7) was up.

ABC (13.2 million, 4.9/12); NBC (12.6 million, 4.9/12) and Fox (10.7 million, 4.9/12) tied for first place in adults 18-49 while CBS (12 million, 2.8/7) and the CW (1.3 million, 0.5/1).
