IMAGEN AWARDS

The 28th annual Imagen Awards, honoring Latino portrayals onscreen, take place Aug. 16 at the Beverly Hilton, with producer Christy Walton receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award and a tribute to the late singer Jenni Rivera. "She was truly a powerhouse," says Imagen president Helen Hernandez.

WEDDINGS

Carrie Smith, senior photo producer at The Hollywood Reporter, married Michael Azzolino, senior vp at Jerry Bruckheimer Television, on Aug. 10 in St. Michaels, Md.

Singer Eydie Gorme, known for her longtime partnership with husband Steve Lawrence, died Aug. 10 of an undisclosed illness in Las Vegas. She was 84.

Karen Black, star of the cutting-edge movies Easy Rider, Five Easy Pieces and Nashville, died Aug. 8 of cancer in a California nursing facility. She was 74.

Respected Hollywood publicist Eddie Michaels died Aug. 8 of brain cancer in Los Angeles. He was 49.
