The drama is the directorial debut of 'Rust and Bone' screenwriter Thomas Bidegain.

Cohen Media Group has snatched up U.S. Rights to Les Cowboys, the French drama from screenwriter-turned director Thomas Bidegain, which has its TIFF premiere on Friday in Toronto's Discovery sidebar.

Les Cowboys stars Francois Damiens as a French Wild West enthusiast who sets off on a journey to find his estranged daughter, who has run away and converted to Islam.

The film, which premiered in the Directors' Fortnight section in Cannes, marks Bidegain's directorial debut. He had made his name as a screenwriter, primarily for French filmmaker Jacques Audiard, penning scripts for Rust and Bone, A Prophet and this year's Palme d'Or winner Dheepan, which is also screening in Toronto.

Pathe is handling international sales for Les Cowboys. Cohen Media Group plans to bow the film in the U.S. in the second quarter of 2016.
