TIFF: Magnolia Acquires Norwegian Disaster Film 'The Wave'

The Roar Uthaug-helmed thriller centers on a geologist trying to prevent a cataclysm when a mountain overlooking a popular Norwegian tourist destination begins to collapse into the ocean.

 Magnolia Pictures has acquire domestic rights to the Norwegian-language disaster film The Wave.

The Roar Uthaug-helmed thriller centers on a geologist trying to prevent a cataclysm when a mountain overlooking a popular Norwegian tourist destination begins to collapse into the ocean.

The Wave makes its TIFF premiere on Wednesday, Sept. 16, in the Special Presentation section.

The film is Norway’s official entry for the Best Foreign Language Academy Award this year.

Magnolia, who has previously released several Norwegian films like Headhunter, Trollhunters, Ragnarok, Pioneer and Happy Happy, is eyeing a U.S. release in early 2016.

The deal was negotiated by Magnolia senior vp of acquisitions Dori Begley with Susan Wendt of TrustNordisk.
