Tiffany Features Gay Couple in Engagement Ring Ad for First Time
"Nowadays, the road to marriage is no longer linear, and true love can happen more than once with love stories coming in a variety of forms," a company rep says
Tiffany & Co. is making headlines with its new engagement ring ad.
For the first time, the jeweler is featuring a same-sex couple in its ad campaign. The ad features a real-life gay couple who live in New York, although their names have not been released.
They are pictured sitting on steps, alongside the text: "Will you promise to never stop completing my sentences or singing off-key, which I'm afraid you do often? And will you let today be the first sentence of one long story that never ends? Will you?"
Tiffany & Co. vp North American PR Linda Buckley told Elle in a statement: "Nowadays, the road to marriage is no longer linear, and true love can happen more than once with love stories coming in a variety of forms. The Tiffany engagement ring is the first sentence of the story that a couple will write together as they create a life that is deeply intimate and exceptional, which is the message we hope to convey through this campaign."
This isn't the first time the company has shown support for same-sex couples. Last month, it included a gay couple in the holiday window display at its flagship store on New York's Fifth Avenue.
The new campaign is being applauded by Twitter users:
