Mark Steinberg joined the agency in 1992 and began working with the pro golfer six years later.

Tiger Woods' longtime sports agent has been fired from IMG, the New York Post reported, citing sources.

Mark Steinberg was reportedly let go after Teddy Forstmann, who runs the sports agency, declined to renew his contact, which is set to expire June 30.

Steinberg had been with the sports agency since 1992 and began working with the pro golfer six years later.

According to a Post source, Steinberg was "fired for poor performance." He is said to have been making about $3 million a year but generated only $1 million in review last year.

IMG reportedly wants to keep Woods on its client roster, but Post sources said it's likely he'll follow his longtime agent.

The news comes in the wake of Woods' infidelity scandal, which led to his divorce from Elin Nordegren. The pro golfer also is in the midst of a slump: Woods last won a tournament 18 months ago in Australia. As a result, Woods -- who has been dealing with prolonged health issues -- last week fell to a No. 12 ranking (down from a No. 2 at the start of the season) among the world's pro golfers, marking the first time he's been ranked outside the top 10 since 1997, according to ESPN.

Steinberg did not respond to requests for comment from the Post.
