TLC Airing True Crime Special 'Half-Ton Killer?' (Exclusive)
The network of "Honey Boo Boo" will devote an hour to a case involving a 1,100-pound woman who confessed to a murder she may not have committed.
TLC is set to premiere the special Half Ton Killer?.
The unscripted cable network will premiere the one-hour true crime thriller on Oct. 10 at 9 p.m. It follows the story of Mayra Rosales, at 1,100 pounds, one of the heaviest people in the world, who confessed to accidentally crushing her nephew to death in 2008 on the Texas-Mexico border. Interviews with experts, Rosales and her skeptical attorney delve into the case that turned out to be less cut and dry than media and local law enforcement originally expected.

Network chief Eileen O'Neill, who's seen a ratings boon with Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, recently spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about the types of programming the network is currently looking pursuing.
"The nonfiction world is undergoing a bit of an evolution right now as to how heavy the producer's hand is in telling a story," she said. "So it's challenging for us. As you look around the marketplace, there are varying degrees of obviousness in unscripted. A large part of the audience isn't as concerned with the scripted part of it. But with the Discovery networks, there is a higher expectation that it's original; it's unique, and it's authentic."
Half-Ton Killer? is produced by Megalomedia, Inc, with Jonathan Nowzaradan serving as EP. Watch an exclusive clip above.
