TMC tops in viewers for French digital

PARIS -- TMC was No. 1 in the French digital TV world in 2007, with the TF1 and AB Group-owned network topping the charts for digital terrestrial TV ratings in France for the year, according to annual figures announced Thursday by audience measurement service Mediametrie.

The DTT network represented a 4% market share among TV viewers equipped with DTT technology and a 1.7% share when all channels are included.

TMC's audience share has risen steadily over the past few months, jumping 0.3 points alone since October. M6 Group's W9 DTT network followed close behind with a 3.5% market share in the DTT category, and a 1.3% share (all networks included) thanks to a 3.7% market share in December, up 0.3 points from December 2006.

Guilli took a 3.5% share in the DTT category and a 1.1% total share, all networks combined. The rise in popularity of the DTT networks is parallel to the drop in audience shares for the country's main networks.

TF1 dropped 0.4% in audience shares for 2007, France 2 fell 0.5 points and M6 0.7%. W9 saw its highest ratings ever during the week of Christmas with a 4.7% audience share and attracts over 28 million French TV viewers.
