TNT Orders David E. Kelley's Medical Drama 'Monday Mornings' to Series
The drama, based on producer and CNN chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta's book, will premiere in summer 2013 with 10 episodes.
TNT has greenlighted David E. Kelley's Monday Mornings.
The medical series, based on the newly released book by practicing neurosurgeon and CNN chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta, follows the lives of five surgeons as they push the limits of their abilities and confront their personal and professional failings.
Kelley penned the pilot, which uses as its backdrop their Portland, Ore.-based hospital’s weekly morbidity and mortality conference, when doctors gather with their peers for a confidential review of complications and errors in patient care. Kelley, whose credits include Harry's Law, Boston Legal and Ally McBeal, and Gupta will executive produce the project, which will bow with 10 episodes in summer 2013.
Mornings, from TNT Originals and David E. Kelley Productions, stars Ving Rhames (Pulp Fiction), Alfred Molina (Spider-Man 2, TNT's The Company), Jamie Bamber (Battlestar Galactica), Jennifer Finnigan (Better With You), Bill Irwin (CSI: Crime Scene Investigation), Keong Sim (Glee), Sarayu Rao (Lions for Lambs) and Emily Swallow (TNT's Southland). The series will be distributed by TBS International outside of North America.
“Monday Mornings is a superb drama brought to life with passion by a gifted ensemble cast and some of the best creative minds working in television today," said Michael Wright, president and head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies.
The news comes one week before TNT and sister network TBS hold their upfront presentation for Madison Avenue buyers, where it is likely to announce a slew of development projects. Two pilots, Frank Darabont's L.A. Noir and Carol Mendelsohn's canine-centric Scent of the Missing, are still in contention.
